Kurt Grimm
»Reduction and Space«
August 2nd to September 6th, 2025

From August 2 to September 6, 2025, the BEGE Galerien Ulm will be presenting an impressive selection of works by sculptor Kurt Grimm in the exhibition »Reduction and Space« at the Galerie am Saumarkt and on the Donau riverside. The exhibition combines monumental sculptures made of iron and steel with an exclusive series of new works on paper – an artistic synthesis that will fascinate both collectors and art critics.
Vernissage is on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Kurt Grimm will be present in person. After the vernissage in the Galerie am Saumarkt, Mr. Grimm will show and explain his open air presenting sculptures on the Donau riverside (next to the fishermen’s square) at 7:30 pm.

Sculpture as choreography of space
Grimm’s sculptures are the result of a precise play with geometry: circular and cube shapes are dismantled, recomposed and placed in an open dialog with the space. The artist uses bent steel bands to create expansive structures that retain an astonishing lightness despite their physical presence. They seem to move in the space, structuring it and at the same time opening it up a new – like choreographed movements made of metal.
Works on paper – forms in a new dimension
For the first time, the exhibition is also showing a series of works on paper. With these works, Grimm transfers his three-dimensional formal principles into the two-dimensional – and yet remains completely true to himself. The unique pieces worked with steel fragments look like abstracted shadows of his sculptures: reduced, fragile and at the same time full of inner tension. They prove that his formal language endures across all media – and reveals itself on paper with unusual intimacy.
Between heaviness and lightness
Kurt Grimm’s works live from paradox: compositions are created from solid steel that appear to be about to take off. When juxtaposed with the delicate works on paper, this field of tension becomes particularly clear. Visitors experience an exhibition that places material, form and space in a moving relationship.
For five weeks, the BEGE galleries will be transformed into a resonating space for Grimm’s artistic ideas – a place where sculpture and drawing meet, reflect each other and open up new perspectives together.
