Tina Tahir: Eine Reise durch Fotografie, Illustration und Identität

Die Ausstellung “Von der Lust an Verwandlung” präsentiert beeindruckende Werke der in Ulm geborenen Künstlerin Tina Tahir, die sich durch ihre einzigartige Verschmelzung von Fotografie und Illustration einen Namen gemacht hat. Tahirs künstlerische Reise, die sie von London über New Mexico und Chicago bis nach Berlin führte, spiegelt sich in einer Vielfalt von Werken wieder, die die Grenzen zwischen Realität und Illusion, Original und Kopie, sowie Identität und Maske erkunden.

Von der Modefotografie zur Kunstwelt
Tahirs Karriere begann in London, wo sie nach ihrem Studium am London College of Communication als Pionierin in der Verbindung von Fotografie und Illustration internationale Anerkennung erlangte. Ihre innovativen Arbeiten fanden Eingang in renommierte Kampagnen für Marken wie Marc Cain, Le Printemps und Lancôme. Besonders hervorzuheben ist ihre Zusammenarbeit mit der Geigenvirtuosin Anne-Sophie Mutter, für deren sie u.a. das Albumcover der Mozart-Trilogie gestaltete.

Identität und Manipulation im digitalen Zeitalter
Das Herzstück der Ausstellung bildet die Serie “Lookatme” (2014-2024), die Tahir 2005 initiierte. Diese Werkreihe setzt sich kritisch mit dem Frauenbild und dessen Manipulation in unserer digitalisierten Gesellschaft auseinander. Die großformatigen Ganzkörperporträts zeigen sitzende Frauenfiguren, deren individuelle Züge zugunsten von Luxus-Accessoires in den Hintergrund treten. Tahir hinterfragt damit die Konstruktion von Identität durch Konsumgüter und die Austauschbarkeit medialer Bilder.

Zwischen digital und analog
In ihren jüngsten Arbeiten erforscht Tahir weiterhin das Spannungsfeld zwischen Schein und Sein. Sie bearbeitet eigene und gefundene Zeichnungen digital und übermalt sie anschließend von Hand. Dieses Vorgehen verwischt die Grenzen zwischen digitaler und analoger Kunst und stellt die traditionelle Hierarchie von Original und Kopie infrage.
“Von der Lust an Verwandlung” lädt die Besucher ein, in Tina Tahirs facettenreiche Bilderwelten einzutauchen und über die Natur von Identität, Repräsentation und künstlerischer Authentizität im 21. Jahrhundert nachzudenken. Die Ausstellung verspricht einen fesselnden Einblick in das Werk einer Künstlerin, die stets die Grenzen des Visuellen auslotet und neu definiert.

The exhibition ‘On the pleasure of transformation’ presents impressive works by the Ulm-born artist Tina Tahir, who has made a name for herself through her unique fusion of photography and illustration. Tahir’s artistic journey, which has taken her from London via New Mexico and Chicago to Berlin, is reflected in a variety of works that explore the boundaries between reality and illusion, original and copy, and identity and mask.

From fashion photography to the art world
Tahir’s career began in London where, after studying at the London College of Communication, she gained international recognition as a pioneer in the combination of photography and illustration. Her innovative work has been featured in prestigious campaigns for brands such as Marc Cain, Le Printemps and Lancôme. Her collaboration with violin virtuoso Anne-Sophie Mutter, for whom she designed the album cover of the Mozart trilogy, is particularly noteworthy.

Identity and manipulation in the digital age
The centrepiece of the exhibition is the ‘Lookatme’ series (2014-2024), which Tahir initiated in 2005. This series of works takes a critical look at the image of women and its manipulation in our digitalised society. The large-format full-body portraits show seated female figures whose individual features are pushed into the background in favour of luxury accessories. Tahir thus questions the construction of identity through consumer goods and the interchangeability of media images.

Between digital and analogue
In her most recent works, Tahir continues to explore the tension between appearance and reality. She digitally processes her own and found drawings and then paints over them by hand. This process blurs the boundaries between digital and analogue art and questions the traditional hierarchy of original and copy.
‘Von der Lust an Verwandlung’ invites visitors to immerse themselves in Tina Tahir’s multifaceted visual worlds and reflect on the nature of identity, representation and artistic authenticity in the 21st century.
